Band-aid solutions don’t work: you need to do the work and get good advice
What I’ve seen in my time in business, is that many people take a quick-fix approach to addressing business issues, because there’s never enough time in the day, and we all want to see quick results. But that’s not the reality so I wanted to provide some advice in these challenging times.
Turning a niche-market business around that has suffered some losses, either financially or with staffing, is a lot of hard work and sometimes, more complicated than you’d think. It’s useful to get some advice from someone who understands the day-to-day running of small to medium businesses, the local industry landscape, preferably with some solid background in business turnarounds. Plus, you want it fast, without having to do weeks of research.
One of the best things about working across so many different industries, such as finance, property, sports and hospitality, is that I have gathered some knowledge and experience in many sectors that have piqued my interest over the years.
“My advice for all businesses that are struggling to reach your business goals is to take a personalised approach.”
Through various opportunities that have come my way over time, we have been fortunate to invest in businesses, such as Chez Oliver, Let’s Grind and Australian Pipe and Tube. Using my passion for these industries, I like to see what’s happening at a ground level to get a full picture of what I’m working with. So far, this approach has worked out well for all involved!
So, my advice for all businesses that are struggling to reach your business goals is to take a personalised approach. Roll up your sleeves and get on the ground to really understand what’s going on in the business and with your clients. Once armed with what the main issues are, then get some quality advice from someone who has been there before on how to solve the issues.
As I have built many strong connections in the industries I’ve worked in, I know many talented people who would be capable of giving you a hand. Reach out if you want some assistance.
It’s never too late to make changes and turn things around - something I’ve learnt from experience. It pays to have someone who will invest time and effort in the business, so keep looking until you find the right fit for your business.
